Why Apis exists.

AI is entering legal work quickly, but law firms need more than broad promises. They need safe entry points, plain-language training, and practical systems that reduce friction in real workflows. Apis begins with billing intelligence because billing is repetitive, high-value, and still requires careful attorney review.

Our work is guided by a simple principle: AI can assist legal professionals, but it should not replace their judgment, accountability, or duty to review final work product.

Danny leads product development, AI implementation, and workflow design for Apis Legal Technologies. He spent a year interviewing AI about humanity's hardest problems and came away with the conviction that drives Apis: AI's real job is giving skilled people their time back. His specialty is turning messy operational problems into practical AI-assisted systems, and coaching people through change they were skeptical about.

Miriam Ortiz, JD

Co-Founder, Chief Operating Officer & Attorney Outreach

Miriam pairs legal training with hands-on operations. She leads attorney outreach and AI literacy for Apis, shaping the Learning Center curriculum and guiding workflow audits and implementation for law firms. Her job is keeping every Apis product and course grounded in what attorneys can actually verify, understand, and use.

She holds a JD from Santa Clara University School of Law, and she brings that discipline to every course and workflow Apis ships: if a claim cannot be verified, it does not go in front of an attorney.

Why legal AI and billing intelligence.

Billing is one of the clearest places to start because it sits at the intersection of legal judgment, communication, client expectations, and administrative burden. Attorneys do the work, but they still have to translate that work into clear, structured billing language.

Honey Ledger focuses on that narrow workflow first: helping attorneys turn rough notes into review-ready billing drafts. From there, Apis can support broader legal AI education, workflow audits, implementation planning, and future operations support for firms.
